Constructivist Approach to Teaching Plane Sections of Solids Using GeoGebra
Abstract
Paper explores the possibilities of applying a constructivist approach and GeoGebra to teaching plane sections of solids at secondary school. The theoretical part outlines the fundamental principles of constructivism and highlights the importance of actively involving students in the process of knowledge construction. Attention is also paid to the use of GeoGebra in developing students’ spatial visualization and geometric thinking. Particular emphasis is placed on teaching plane sections of solids, which is considered one of the more challenging topics in school solid geometry. The paper presents possibilities for the dynamic visualization and manipulation of geometric objects, as well as for testing students’ hypotheses using GeoGebra. Its aim is to introduce an approach that enhances visual understanding, encourages the independent discovery of geometric relationships, and supports students’ active construction of knowledge.
